Friday 10/15/99

12:32 PM.
Scheduled time to Leave Miami to Meet Kathleen in Boca.

Good Luck! Hurricane Irene decided to mess things up. Coming up from Cuba she is drenching us with rain. Should we leave early and try to get ahead of it or stick around and see that she doesn't mess things up too much at home before we leave? Our original plan would have us hitting the road right when the storm would be at it's worst here, the current plan may be to wait it out just a bit and see that all is safe at home.

Below is a an image of a tree Blown over (cracked in half) in my back yard a couple of hours ago.

2:00 PM
It hasn't changed much in the last few hours..... I took the shots below of the street in front of my house. Very wet but not too bad. The other is from the weather radar on the Internet. It doesn't look good for where need to be driving. It looks like a very long very wet drive whenever we leave. Following the traffic reports on local TV, it looks like it's already a traffic jam nightmare and it's still early in the day. I'm thinking of taking a drive up to the Palmetto expressway just to see what is to be seen.

4:30 PM Took a drive to the store and one of those feeder bands must have been coming through as I got home. Trees swaying, rain pouring down..... check out the comparison of the street and the radar map now.

One idea is to wait till "Irene" passes us on the west and is just north of 75. Then we head out and take I-75 west to get on the western side of the storm. Otherwise, we will be fighting the weather through the whole state. We'll see what develops.
